I suppose this is the spot where I should give props to Vanessa for coming up with the ever so clever name to my blog “The Green Howse Effect” (Hmmm, ’ever so clever’ is also a good name for a blog). I am trying to become more & more environmentally friendly and though there’s loads of room for improvement I am surprised by how many green options are available. For example, my house now runs entirely on wind power & low impact hydro. Never knew such a thing was an option until a couple of months ago. In my blog I will touch on all kinds of current events but try to focus on the environment more often than not. We’ll see how that goes. Thanks for reading!
Good morning,
first of all, i am surprised and very impressed that your house is run by wind power and hydro. if it is a fitting subject for one of your next stories, it would be interesting to know (without you giving up personal or financial information) how you were able to do it- one of the big barriers of late is how do you ( or the government) provide the right incentives or support to people which would make installing wind or solar, an economically viable solution? Also would like to hear your views on the Ontario Government’s Green Energy Act. ( if it is something you would like to offer views on)
thanks
Hi GP,
Sorry for the delay in my response. I use Bullfrog power to supply my energy. What happens is that they measure how much energy I use and then pump that much into the grid, therefore reducing the amount I need from Coal/Nuclear. However, I think coal will the cheaper source of energy for the foreseeable future as it is hard to compete with decades of infrastructure in place. And I wouldn’t expect the government to provide enough incentives into wind to put them on an level playing field either. With the economy the way it is there won’t be many people willing to pay for cleaner energy but what will happen is people will use less to save money. And that’s a good thing too.
