In Iceland there is such an abundance of clean energy available via geothermal power plants that during the wintertime they heat some of their roads! Imagine the hassle that could be avoided if the city of Ottawa was able to melt all of the snow on a few of it’s main roads as soon as [...]

In response to my friend Ryan Coke’s “olive branch”, I am extending a special thank you to the habs and their fans. It is from all of you that I have learned so much. And who am I to take all of this knowledge without giving due credit to it’s source. So first I will acknowledge the most [...]
Inmate Revived, then Executed
Posted in Off the wall, tagged Capital Punishment, overdose, Robert Breechen on September 23, 2008 | 1 Comment »
This is bordering on the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. At a state penitentiary in Oklahoma an inmate on death row, Robert Breechen, tried to kill himself through a drug overdose. His execution was scheduled for midnight but when they went his cell to retrieve him at 9pm, he was unresponsive. He was then taken [...]

What was once a good thing, might now be bad.
When the production of HDTV’s started taking off a couple of years ago they were praised for their efficient use of electricity as well as their picture quality. So if these plasma & LCD tv’s continue to replace the older inefficient CRT’s it must be a [...]
Most Anticipated?

The new fall schedule of television is nearly here and you have probably seen many of the commercials for new shows fighting for a time slot. Most of them are very bad, hell most of the ones already on are very bad. I was watching the commercial for “Worst Week” and the announcer called it [...]
Global Dimming?
Posted in Environment, tagged Global Dimming, Global Warming, Pan Evaporation, Sept 11th on September 17, 2008 | 2 Comments »
Apparently pollution is helping to keep the earth cooler. The effect is known as global dimming. It states that as more and more pollutants (particularly aerosols) make their way into the atmosphere, the amount of sunlight that actually makes it to the earth is reduced, thus creating a cooling effect.
The most convincing evidence of global dimming [...]
Paper or Plastic?

It may not matter anymore. Daniel Burd, a grade 11 student from the Waterloo Institute in Ontario may have solved the plastic bag problem.

The problem with plastic bags is that they take about 1000 years to degrade and we’re producing around 500 billion of them per year worldwide. The basis of his experiment was that [...]

Have you ever driven through a yellow light just as it was turning red thinking “Holy Crap! I probably shouldn’t have driven through that”. Then you look in your rear view mirror and there’s another 5 cars following right behind you! That’s one of my biggest pet peeves as a driver in Ottawa. Here’s some [...]
TSN – Toronto Sports Network

Leave it to TSN to take a Wayne Gretzky interview and make it front page national news because he says something positive about the leafs. ‘Toronto’s going to be fine’ reads the headline. Fine? Only if they can draft well, which would be a change. It is clearly a rebuilding year so the leafs will be [...]
Eggbeater Power

There’s a new design making it’s way into the wind power market called the Darrieus wind turbine. It kind of looks like a giant egg beater. See link below:

It has two major benefits over the conventional propeller design. It uses more of the wind so therefore is up to 40% more efficient, and most importantly, [...]
